Chocolate Donuts
Equipment
- an oven
- A piping bag (optional)
- A donut mold (silicone or metal)
Ingredients
For the dough:
- 180 g of all-purpose flour
- 100 g of fine sugar
- 10 g of baking powder
- 2 g of salt
- 2 g of baking soda
- 180 ml of plant-based milk (almond milk, soy milk, etc.)
- 30 g of deodorized coconut oil (if it's solid, melt it before use)
- 5 ml of apple cider vinegar
- 5 ml of vanilla extract
For the chocolate glaze:
- 100 g of vegan dark chocolate
- 30 ml of plant-based milk (or more if needed)
- 30 g of powdered sugar (optional, for sweetness adjustment)
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a silicone or metal donut mold.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, mix the plant-based milk, melted deodorized coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, and vanilla extract. If the deodorized coconut oil is solid, melt it in a double boiler or microwave until it's liquid before adding it to the wet ingredients. Make sure not to overheat it, as it can become too hot and lose some of its beneficial properties.
- Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until you have a smooth batter.
- Fill each donut mold three-quarters full with the batter, either using a piping bag (easiest) or a container with a pouring spout.
- Bake the donuts in the preheated oven for about 12 to 15 minutes or until they are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Meanwhile, prepare the glaze: melt the vegan dark chocolate in a double boiler (or microwave) until completely smooth and melted.
- Add the plant-based milk to the melted chocolate, stirring continuously until you achieve a smooth glaze consistency. If the glaze seems too thick, add a little more plant-based milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach the desired consistency.
- If you want a sweeter glaze, you can add powdered sugar and vanilla extract at this stage. This is entirely optional. Mix well to incorporate the ingredients.
- Allow the chocolate glaze to cool slightly to thicken a bit.
- Dip each baked and cooled donut into the chocolate glaze, making sure to coat them evenly. You can also add decorations like chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or chocolate sprinkles.
- Let the glaze harden at room temperature for a few minutes. And then... enjoy!
