Black Sesame and Vanilla Donuts

These black sesame and vanilla donuts are a celebration of simplicity and sophistication. Vanilla, with its warm and comforting notes, brings a classic sweetness that perfectly balances the earthy and almost mystical flavor of black sesame. The addition of black sesame seeds is not just for aesthetics—they also provide a pleasing texture and a burst of taste that pleasantly surprises the palate.

A few notes on this recipe: as with the other donuts from the “Peace, Love & Donuts” collection, these are baked in the oven, not fried in oil. The recipe allows for flexibility with the use of deodorized coconut oil for richness without the coconut flavor, sunflower oil for its neutrality, or melted vegetable margarine to add a little more softness to the texture.

If the black sesame cream was in the refrigerator, it’s likely too thick. Allow it to reach room temperature first or gently warm it in a double boiler or with short pulses in the microwave. Be mindful of the texture, as excessive heat could make it too liquid or alter its delicate taste. Once the desired consistency is achieved, use the necessary amount for your recipe.

The glaze, a subtle blend of powdered sugar and black sesame seeds, is the final touch that transforms each donut into a masterpiece. So embark on this culinary adventure where vanilla meets black sesame—an encounter destined to become a classic!
